Siam destroys Vientiane
After King Anouvong's failed revolt against Bangkok, Siamese forces sack and raze Vientiane and deport its people, ending the kingdom of Vientiane.

Franco-Siamese crisis and loss of Laos
After French gunboats threaten Bangkok, Siam cedes the Lao territories east of the Mekong to French Indochina, the heaviest of its frontier concessions.

Following the Franco-Siamese crisis, Siam cedes the territory east of the Mekong and France makes the Lao states a protectorate within French Indochina, administered from Vientiane.
