    Creation of the Moldavian ASSR

    Refusing to recognize the loss of Bessarabia, the Soviet Union established the Moldavian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic on the east bank of the Dniester within Soviet Ukraine, as a standing claim to the territory across the river.
