    The Armenian Genocide

    From 24 April 1915 the Ottoman Young Turk government deported and massacred the empire's Armenian population in death marches toward the Syrian desert; widely recognised as the first genocide of the 20th century, with deaths estimated from roughly 600,000 to as many as 1.5 million.
