Jamaican Maroons arrive

The Garifuna reach the southern coast
The Garifuna (Garinagu), deported by the British from St. Vincent, settled the southern coast around Stann Creek and Punta Gorda; their arrival on 19 November is marked as Garifuna Settlement Day, a national holiday from 1941.
